Visitors vs. Customers

I was wondering if anyone has a good method to differentiate between visitors and customers who make purchases on the POS.

Right now we keep a tally sheet to record the number of people who step through the door. We also use the “start a table” feature to count the number of guests or groups who make purchases as we would be checking them out through the POS. At the the end of the day, we compare the total guest count on our tally sheet with the guest count report generated through the admin panel.

Does anyone have a method or a suggestion on how to track this data solely through the POS to have it generated in reports without us having to use a piece of paper to tally guests?

I think what you are looking to do is to track tasters and non-tasting visitors?

Create a few SKUs:

  • Paid Taste
  • Comp Taste (with sub skus tracking why, such as club, coupon, etc)
  • Non tasting visitor

Then just run a report and you’ll have your count!

This does require training your tasting room staff to be vigilant, but it’s probably a heck of a lot easier than paper and pen!
