Inconsistent subject line //OrderNumber// tag behavior

My order confirmation subject line is set up as " McGregor Vineyard Order Confirmation #//OrderNumber//" - normally this works fine but among people who reply to that confirmation email I have noticed that the subject line in approximately 20% of them look like this:

So sometimes but not always, the //OrderNumber// tag is not being filled with the actual order number. Anybody have any insight?

Unfortunately as referenced in the documentation: Auto populated fields ONLY populate in the content of the email itself, not the subject title. So that is why you may get some success with some emails and not others. I recommend submitting the idea to the ideas portal for consideration.
