Resuming pending orders

We have problems with held orders disappearing from the held orders area on the POS. It usually happens on busy Saturdays. I can find them in the pending orders, but how do we go about resuming the order? What we have been doing is recreating the order and leaving the pending order. Sometimes the order will pop up later in the held orders area, creating another management headache.

We’ve also had that problem, so I think I can help. If you pull up the POS menu and go to ‘Order Manager’ you can click the magnifying glass in the upper right hand corner and change the search criteria to Status = Pending. You’ll see a list of all your pending orders, with the most recent at the top. Click on the order you want to resume, it will open that order in the list, then click Resume Order.

Thanks JKing! That works like a charm. Now if we can just stop the held tables from disappearing……

Thanks for the assist, @JKing. +1 internet point for you

@LeslieF, just a note on what’s actually going on with Restaurant Features (they were built for the winery I was working at when I was working there): The Resume Order orders have an Order Status of Hold. If you open up a Table/order and then jump into another order without Holding it again, it now has a status of Pending and Pending orders don’t show up on that list. This one took me a while to figure out. There are some checks in place there. It doesn’t allow you to Start a Table if you have an order open, for example. Would it make the user experience worse if we required you to Hold a Table before opening up another Table? Or should they auto-Hold? Anyway, we’re listening. Thanks!

?Hi Zach,

Auto hold would be wonderful! Sometimes even when we hold them they get lost in space. We have this happen frequently on weekends. It would also be great if the pending orders showed the table number so they are easier to find. Another feature would be the ability to change the table number or transfer that table to another server. We have tables moving around frequently as the prime spaces open up. I know the new server can add items, but unless we manually change it, the kitchen doesn’t know where the food is going.

Thanks!

All great ideas, @LeslieF. Please do me the formality of submitting these ideas as a Feature Request so that we have an official record of this idea having been requested. After all, that’s what this forum is for: rallying support.

As for transferring tables to another server, that is possible today in that you can open up a table, go to Additional Order Info in the menu, change the Sales Associate to a new server, and Hold the Table again. That said, it could probably be less button pushes.

?Thanks Zach, I’ll do that. When you change the sales associate is it possible to rename the table?

Nope, there’s currently not a way to do that but I can definitely see the use case for that! Be sure to include that little detail in the Request!

And thanks, @LeslieF!
