New Gift Club Membership Features are a bit clumsy

I am very excited about the new Club Gift Membership tools… except for a few pretty clumsy bits. Here are a couple things that should be on the short list to approve… I’m sure we’ll find more when people start to use it :slight_smile:

Thinking from the perspective of the customer, there is a pretty glaring omission: There is no option to select a date to send the email to the recipient. If someone wants to send a gift membership for Christmas, for example, and is doing their online Christmas shopping today, Dec 6th, the recipient will get the email notification today instead of on the day of or day after most people will be giving gifts. There should be the option to select a specific date to send that email/begin the club membership.

The other major issue I see is that the gift recipient will be getting all of the billing information. What is the first thing we all do when purchasing a gift before wrapping it? Remove the price tag. To have the gift recipient be notified if the card is declined or similar is definitely going be an issue.

I am concerned about upset customers calling about these issues…

From the FAQ: “The giftee’s email will only contain shipping information (no billing information) if the //OrderBlob// or //ClubBlob// is used in the email document.”

I’m presuming from this (I know I know) that the giftee will not get the decline emails etc.

Related: When should the recipient get the first shipment? I could send one today or I could wait until the next regularly scheduled…

Yes… but based on this:

When it comes to emails, both the contacts (gifter and giftee) will receive emails related to the processing, refunding, or cancellation of club orders. Only the giftee will receive emails related to the shipping and tracking of the order, as they are the ones receiving the order. Both will have accounts on file so both will be available to reach using email.

It reads like they will be getting all billing emails… It’s a bit ambiguous…

A few weeks later, how has everybody’s experience been with the new gift memberships feature?

I have a few questions:

  1. Have we sorted out if gift recipients are receiving any emails regarding the billing process? I mean, if a gift giver’s card declines that is totally invisible to the gift recipient… right?
  2. Can I migrate current members who are partially through a yearlong prepaid membership to the new Gift Membership setup? I really don’t want to be half in and half out on this.
  3. How is everybody’s impression on how this is going from the customer/recipient’s ends? Are people getting the process, or are they spending time as pending?
