I know i keep harping on this, but… The tip mechanism needs to be considered as part of the feature dujour. We offer a tipline for our guests. Our workaround works pretty well. Customer wants to pay, we print a ‘preliminary’ receipt, they add the tip and sign the paper copy which we keep as part of our daily internal reports. Then our rep enters the tip on the ipad, closes the sale and then prints the final copy (with tip and total) that is then handed to the customer. This works well.
UNTIL…
Until customer(s) request a split check. There is NO way to print a split check receipts with the tipline.
Is there any way to modify the pos to support something more like a restaurant check? It would sure make this tip process easier.
While you’re on this, I would like to add some input if you don’t mind. Emails are so valuable so not printing a receipt and asking the guest to add their email address to get their receipt emailed to them is key. We really don’t feel good about the tip option being in their face and the lowest tip amount is 15%? I think. It would be so great if instead of the screen showing the tip option automatically, if it had a large button that says “I would like to add a gratuity” that the guest can click on and then the tip percentages show up. It doesn’t feel right to have that pressure on the guest. Anyone with me?
I’d personally rather have no tip percentages at all, just enter an amount. It seems rude and greedy to ask restaurants percentages when there is no food service.
And this is why we do the process we do - to avoid that tipping screen. Having it on the chit is very common in restaurant and bar settings and there is no (significant) pressure either way. I really dislike the interim step screen as well.
