Troubleshooting ID Tech Swipers

How to Troubleshoot Swiper Issues:

  1. Turn iPad off/on
  2. Update iOS to the latest version: System > General > Software Update
  3. Unplug/replug in swiper
  4. Hard close the app: Double tap the Home button and “swipe up”
  5. Reload POS (in Vin65 app)

If all of those steps fail, it’s probably a hardware problem. To ensure that’s the problem, download this app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id-tech-unimag-reader/id444159983?mt=8

Open the app and touch the swipe button at the bottom of the screen

  1. Swipe your card

  2. Touch the Read Swipe Button.

If the output from the card that displays onscreen is encrypted (portions of the data will be converted to **** icons) then you have a swipe unit that has been encrypted for use only with a specific vendor, like Authorize.net. You will need to reach out to the vendor you purchased the unit from to look for an unencrypted replacement unit or look at purchasing a new unencrypted unit.

If the data looks correct you may need to check the application privacy settings to see if the ID Tech Unimag Reader and Vin65 apps are allowed to use the microphone.
